How does cable wakeboarding work?

Essentially, the wakeboard cable replaces the boat and pulls the rider along a course. The wakeboarder glides across the water, similar to snowboarding. The System 2.0 that is installed in the Grand Canal Dock has two towers and one rider uses the cable on their own and can continuously ride along the course between the two towers.

Because there is only one person on the cable, it means that if they fall, the operator can drive the handle back to them and they can get up again right there. There is no need to swim to the quayside or back to the start platform. That means the rider gets maximum ride time on the cable!

The System 2.0 is perfect for beginners to learn wakeboarding and ideal for more advanced riders to practice their tricks and hit the obstacles.

I have never wakeboarded before, what should I book?

Cable wakeboarding is the easiest way to learn to wakeboard and most people will be able to get up in their first session.

For first time wakeboarders we offer two different types of sessions:

  1. 30 minute tuition – This is the best session to book if it is your first time wakeboarding, one of our qualified wakeboarding instructors will first give you a land drill showing your necessary positioning over the board and the movement that will get you up on the board before you get on the water to put it into practice. With a longer session time you can relaxxxx
  2. 15 minute ride pass – This is our normal ride pass that can be booked by beginners and more advanced riders.

Even if you have never wakeboarded before, you can book this session, the tuition session is not mandatory.

What is a ride pass?

A ride pass is our standard session on the cable. The ride pass runs over 15 minutes per person. Only sone person can ride at any given time, making a ride pass always a 1:1 session – you do not have to share the cable with other riders. When you fall in the water and let go of the handle, the cable operator will drive the handle back to you and you will get going again. Within the ride pass you will get maximum water and ride time.

Why does the booking calendar only offer bookings every hour (half hour for certain times)?

Our System 2 is located in the middle of the Grand Canal Dock. In order to reach the start pontoon we run a boat shuttle from the quayside. This brings riders from our changing facilities over to the start dock. For most of our sessions the boat goes out once an hour – this means for example if you have booked a ride pass for 3pm, you will go over for 3pm and ride for 15 minutes. Together with you there could be 3 other people who will also get 15 minutes ride time each. You will all take the boat back to the quayside together after you are finished.

During lunchtime and for wake up sessions we offer the boat shuttle every 30 minutes for a quicker turnaround time. Ideal to stop by in your lunch break and head out for a set leaving plenty of time to get back to the office.

Why should I arrive 30 minutes before the start of my session?

This is particularly important for your first session, as the check-in process can take some time. After check-in you will be given any rental equipment you need before getting changed. The boat out to the start dock leaves from the quayside a few minutes before the start time of the slot, so if you are not there in time to catch the boat we unfortunately cannot guarantee that you will be able to do your session, especially on a busy day. If that is the case and you are late for your time slot, this counts as a no-show and you will be charged the full amount for your session. In order to avoid disappointment make sure to come to Wakedock with plenty of time.

I need to cancel / change my booking

No problem, sometimes plans change. You can cancel or change your session at any time up to 48 hours before the start of your slot free of charge. Cancellations after that will be charged at 80%, 20% of the price you originally paid will be retained on your account as credit that can be used against future bookings. We do not offer cash refunds for cancellations. If you do not cancel but do not show for your booking or are late for your slot, you will be charged the full amount.

I don’t have a Paypal account, can I still make an online booking?

Yes, you can make an online booking. When prompted just click on the Paypal link where you will be offered to pay with your credit card details without setting up a Paypal account first. All our online payments are handled directly on the Paypal website, but you do not have to have an account to choose this option.

Why do I have to pre pay my booking and cannot pay on arrival?

At Wakedock all sessions are fully paid at the time of booking whether you book through our online booking system, over the phone or in person at reception. We don’t offer a system of reservations or deposit payments, only fully paid bookings are guaranteed a slot, but that doesn’t mean that you cannot change your mind. Up to 48 hours before the start of your time slot you can cancel or change your session free of charge.

If you decide against pre-booking, you can come to us and see whether a slot is available at the time of your arrival, but we cannot guarantee you that you will be able to get a slot.

I am under 18, can I go wakeboarding with Wakedock?

Children from the age of 8 onwards can use our wakeboard cable. We offer children specific sessions (see here) up to the age of 17. Everyone who is under the age of 18 will need a parent / guardian to sign our waiver form for them. This has to be presented before the first session with us. There are no exceptions to this rule, so for example if you make a booking on our online system but forget to get our waiver form signed by a parent you will not be able to go out, but you will be charged the full amount.

We reserve the right to call you parent/guardian in order to verify that they have given permission for you to use the cable system.

I am a student, are there any student discounts?

Yes, there are discounts for students.

  1. Off-peak ride pass: During off peak times students get free equipment rental so do not have to pay for wetsuit / wakeboard.
  2. Tuition: For first time wakeboarders that are students we offer the tuition session at a discounted rate.
  3. Group booking during off-peak times: Students who make a group booking during off-peak times are offered this at a discounted rate.

I don’t have any equipment. What is included in the booking?

All safety equipment is included free of charge, that means you will get a helmet and buoyancy aid from us. We also provide wetsuits and wakeboards against a rental fee. You will be allowed to hit the obstacles with our rental wakeboards. If you get into the sport and would like to get your own equipment, let us know and we’re happy to give you advice on wetsuits and boards.

I want to come down with my friends, what’s the best way for us to book?

Share the fun of wakeboarding with your mates and save some money! If you get a group together you can book out an hour (or 2 hours, 3 hours) on the system. The advantage of a group booking is that all rental equipment will be included free of charge in the booking. As with all our bookings, a group booking has to be paid in full at the time of booking.

How do session savers work?

If you know you want to ride the cable regularly, it might be worthwhile to purchase a session saver. You can do so in our online booking system, once you have signed up or you can call us on 01-6643883 and we can do it for you.

Your user account in the booking system will be charged with the credit you purchase, so for example if you purchase a 5 session saver you pay €137.50 and your account will be credited with €150. Every time you book in for a session, the amount will be deducted from your account.

The bigger the session saver the bigger the saving. For a 10 session saver you pay €250 and we will give you an extra €50 credit. It doesn’t matter what you spend the money on, there will always be a saving.
