Grassroots Tour 17th September 2016

Grassroots Tour Collage V2

Whether you are new to wakeboarding wanting to find out what it’s like to compete or a seasoned wakeboarder,  the Grassroots Tour competition has the right category for everyone from rookie to pro. We will be hosting our second stop of the year on Saturday, 17th September.

The day is all about fun on the water with other wakeboarders (and a little bit about winning too of course).

Competition Entry is €40 which includes practice in the morning, the competition run, a T Shirt and free lunch (kindly provided by Camile Thai).

We will have Carver Skateboards and Indo Boards available for demo and competitors can win prizes from our sponsors O’Neill and Feature Clothing.

NEW: Big Air Contest after the competition with a chance to win a Breezeboard Pro.

Each Grass Roots event is held over a full day and kicks off at about 9 or 10am. Until mid afternoon it is free riding on the Seistec cables with a few pro demos mixed in and pro coaching on hand to help improve rider’s skills. All the people who enter are encouraged to ride as much as possible all morning and it is great for growing the local community vibe at the park. Once mid afternoon comes all the riders get split into various divisions and the comp starts. In the comp each rider gets 3 passes with unlimited falls to impress the judges. The divisions are aimed at the first timer to the seasoned pro.

There are trophies to hand out and there is an official prize giving after each competition finishes. Depending on each wake parks location an after party will be planned!

Due to the growing list of new wake parks and more stops on the Grassroots Tour in 2016 we will be mainly focusing on the regional areas. It is really simple, you add up your points that you score in your region and the people with the most points are the regional winners!

Here is a break down of the divisions:

Mens Rookies

– This division is aimed for riders who have just started out in the sport
– If you learnt to ride last week then you could enter the Rookies division this week!
– Any tricks up to and including 360’s are allowed in this division
– If you can spin 540’s along an obstacle or off a kicker then we’ll see you later, you’re in Intermediates!
– If you can back lip or front board the obstacles then you too are off to the Intermediates
– Definitely no air tricks, that’s cheating at this level!

 Mens Intermediate

– Love wakeboarding, ride loads, but your not a pro? Then this division is for you.
– Tricks that are welcome in this division include: – Air tricks up to and including backrolls, raleys and roll to reverts
– Frontside 540’s and basic inverts like Tantrums, Scarecrows, Roll to Reverts off the kicker
– Obstacle tricks like ollie 270 onto a rail, ollie on backside lipslide, tail presses, nose presses etc

 Mens Open

– If you’re sponsored then you’re in this division
– If you want to be sponsored then you need to be in this division!
– If you’ve won intermediate events before then you too are in Open Mens, so step up your game!

 Ladies Rookies

– This is for the ladies who have just started out in the sport
– Any tricks allowed up to but not including 360’s
– If you can spin 360’s along rails or on kickers then we’ll see you later, you moving up to open

 Ladies Open

– This is for the ladies who love to ride
– If you can backside lipslide or front board the rails then you need to be here
– If you can spin 360’s on the obstacles or kickers then you are no longer a rookie either
– If you can do air tricks then, hell you could be winning this one!

 Junior Rookies

– 16 or under then this one is for you
– This includes boys and girls
– This division is aimed for riders who have just started out in the sport
– If you learnt to ride last week then you could enter the Rookies division this week!

Junior Intermediates

– Brand New division
– 16 or under then this one is for you
– This includes boys and girls
– If you have ridden a year in Junior Rookie, then you need to be in this division now!
– Spinning 360’s then this one is for you too!

 Junior Open

– 16 or under then this one is for you
– This includes boys and girls

Grassroots Tour 2015 – Full Results

We had a fantastic day for our third time hosting a Grassroots Tour stop here in the Grand Canal Dock in Dublin with 44 competitors across 7 categories. Thanks to all the riders for taking part and making the event what it is all about – a good time with other wakeboarders and lots of fun on the water. It is great to see so many new people competing, particularly all our young riders who are new to the sport and had a ball out there yesterday!

A big thanks to Scotty Broome and Nicole who made their way over from the UK to judge the event and our local event sponsors for their support of the sport and the riders, Feature Clothing and EXIT Surf Street Summit.

The Grassroots Tour has some fantastic overall sponsors who provide great prizes and support to all events so a big shoutout goes to Neff Headwear, Freegun, O’Brien Wakeboards, Industry Wake Parks, teko, Fox, Unit, bro!, Fight, Contour and Sesitec.

Looking forward to our Grassroots Tour 2016!

Nina & Colin
